Background
I began a full-time ADR practice in 1997 after serving twenty-one years as a judge, twenty years on the Chancery Court in Nashville, and one year as a senior judge. I served as president of the Tennessee Judicial Conference, presiding judge in Nashville, as a member of the Tennessee Judicial Council, and on the Board of Governors of the Tennessee Bar Association. I taught trial advocacy for twenty-one years at Vanderbilt Law School and am now teaching a mediation course there. I have served on the faculties of the National Judicial College and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. I was the first recipient of the Nashville Bar Association’s annual CLE award. I also write books and articles about Tennessee history, travel, and outdoor recreation and am a contributor to the Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture (5 entries).

J.D., Vanderbilt Law School; B.A., Centre College. I regularly participate in a wide variety of ADR training both as a trainer and a student in programs sponsored by the American Arbitration Association, American Bar Association, CPR Institute, and various state and local bar associations.
