Kregg agreed to tell us a little about himself and to share some of his thoughts about being a mediator:
What is in your mediator tool kit? What is your favorite or most used tool?
My favorite tool is to seek out if there is a possibility of an apology on either or both sides. I have found it to be the most transformative aspect of any mediation.
If you were a superhero/mediator what would be your name and slogan?
Apology Man – able to leap big hurts in a single phrase.
What is your pet peeve?
I have difficulty with unnecessary wasted time.
Are you married/do you have kids/pets etc?
I am married to a wonderful woman from Switzerland named Daniele, who has taught me much about life and love. We have a dog named Franky and a cat named Remy.
What are your hobbies?
I am a long time musician and songwriter, so I love to play music with friends. I like movies and traveling.
Why did you become a mediator?
I like the immediacy of solving problems through mediation. I used mediation years ago for a dispute with a record company and I realized the power of facilitated and assisted negotiation to resolve issues.
What is your favorite mediation read?
“On Apology” by Aaron Lazare.
What is your phobia?
I have a fear of the word “phobia”… (Okay, I’ll say brown recluse spiders.)
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Anywhere in Italy.
Personal or professional accomplishments you are particularly proud of?
I won the “Gong Show”. (Well, maybe I shouldn’t be proud of that). I am proud of being married for 11 years. I am proud of many great memories with family and friends. I am proud that I am continuing my education and doing something that helps others in the process.
Where are you from and how did you end up in Nashville?
I was born in Arkansas and lived in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and California before coming to Nashville 4 years ago as a quality of life change as well as continuing to make music.
Please complete these sentences:
“I have a burning desire to keep renewing my spirit by engaging in all aspects of life.”
“People tell me I look like (at one point) Kyle MacLachlan.”
“If I could have a 30 minute conversation with anyone (alive or otherwise, famous or not), I would want to speak with Thomas Jefferson”.
What is your favorite TV show?
The Dick Van Dyke Show
What is your favorite food/restaurant?
Sushi
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Vanilla (add chocolate syrup and pecans)
Knowing what you now know about life etc., would you choose the same career path? If not, what would you like to do?
I enjoying doing different things, so the idea of mediation as an independent business works well, because I can pull in all my experiences in other jobs to relate to the various people I will be facilitating.
