Background
Hon. Joe G. Riley retired from the bench in 2004 having served 7 years on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals and 18 years as a Circuit Court Judge in Dyer and Lake Counties. As a Circuit Court Judge, he was one of the pioneers of judicial mediations in civil and domestic cases even prior to the adoption of Rule 31. He is a skilled mediator and settlement judge, known for his creative settlements in resolving complex matters. Judge Riley has served as Disciplinary Counsel of the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary and is a Past-President of the Tennessee Judicial Conference. He has authored numerous legal publications, served as an adjunct professor at the University of Memphis School of Law and taught seminars for judges, lawyers and lay groups. He is one of the three founding partners of Justice Programs, a professional educational group providing continuing legal education for lawyers.

Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Tennessee; Order of Coif graduate of University of Tennessee College of Law; graduate of National Judicial College. Extensive training/education in both civil and family mediation.
